How does the Bose Home Speaker 300 compare to the Bose Home Speaker 500?
The Bose Home Speaker 300 is a compact smart speaker with exceptionally powerful 360° sound. The Bose Home Speaker 500 is our best-performing smart speaker, a larger speaker with stereo sound aimed left and right to produce the widest sound of any smart speaker. The Bose Home Speaker 500 also includes an LCD screen to show you what’s playing.
What sources can I play music from?
The Bose Home Speaker 300 can play music directly from streaming music services over Wi-Fi®, controlled either by the Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa, or using the Bose Music app. The Bose Home Speaker 300 also has Bluetooth® capability and a standard 3.5-mm aux line-in jack. Additionally, you can play music on the Bose Home Speaker 300 from the Spotify® app on a smartphone, tablet or computer using Spotify® Connect, and from an Apple device via Apple AirPlay 2 compatibility for streaming content like Apple Music.
Can I use the Bose Home Speaker 300 without Wi-Fi?

How can I set the preset buttons on the Bose Home Speaker 300?
You can press and hold any of the six preset buttons on the speaker to save the current station/playlist as a preset. Or you can set a preset via the Bose Music app.
Can I still play music on the speaker when the microphones are turned off?
Yes. Although the Bose Home Speaker 300 has the Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa built-in, you can also play music from other sources, such as integrated Wi-Fi music services available through the Bose Music app and through the preset buttons on the speaker. You can also use a Bluetooth or aux connection. All of these non-voice sources are available independent of whether the microphones are turned off or whether the Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa are enabled.
Does the Bose Home Speaker 300 have Wi-Fi built in?
Yes. The speaker uses the 802.11ac Wi-Fi standard.
Does the Bose Home Speaker 300 have Bluetooth built in?
Yes. Bluetooth makes it easy for anyone to connect a smartphone or other device to the Bose Home Speaker 300 in a familiar way, and allows you the flexibility to play audio from any source, like a YouTube video or a recording saved on a phone or laptop.
Does the Bose Home Speaker 300 have a battery for portable use?
No. The speaker must be plugged into a wall socket to function.
How do I connect a Bluetooth device to the Bose Home Speaker 300?
To put your speaker into Bluetooth pairing mode, press and hold the Bluetooth source button on the speaker for several seconds (the light bar will begin pulsing blue). Then go to your mobile device’s Bluetooth settings, ensure it is available for connection and select the Bose Home Speaker 300 from the list.
After you have initially paired to a Bluetooth device, you can simply tap the Bluetooth button on the speaker once to reconnect to the last connected device. You can also easily reconnect previously connected mobile devices from their Bluetooth settings page, and you can use the Bose Music app to reconnect or manage your speaker’s paired device list at any time.
You can also use the Bose Music app to put your speaker into Bluetooth pairing mode by simply selecting Bluetooth as the speaker’s source in the app. Then go to your mobile device’s Bluetooth settings and select the Bose Home Speaker 300 from the list.
Can the product connect to more than one Bluetooth device at a time?
No. Only one mobile device can be connected to the Bose Home Speaker 300 at a time via Bluetooth. However, it’s easy to switch between devices using the Bose Music app or the Bluetooth settings on the selected device.
Can I use the Bose Home Speaker 300 at my friend’s house? Or at a holiday home?
Yes. The Bose Home Speaker 300 can remember multiple Wi-Fi networks and passwords.
What is the acoustic technology in the Bose Home Speaker 300?
The Bose Home Speaker 300 contains one proprietary Bose full-range driver positioned to fire downwards into an acoustic deflector. This design allows the speaker to produce incredibly smooth and spacious 360° sound. Proprietary digital signal processing enables the Bose Home Speaker 300, a mono speaker, to preserve and reproduce more of a recording’s original stereo audio content when compared to other mono speakers. Proprietary digital signal processing also enables the Bose Home Speaker 300 to maximise audio output from its small size and to produce surprisingly deep bass, leveraging an advanced acoustic port design with Bose’s innovative QuietPort technology.
Can I use the Bose Home Speaker 300 as a clock or alarm?
Yes. Although the Bose Home Speaker 300 does not have an LCD display to show the time, you can use the Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa to ask for the time, timers and alarms.
What Google Assistant features are not supported?
The following features are not supported at this time but will become available in future automatic software updates:
Chromecast capabilities, but Google Assistant voice control of Chromecast-enabled TVs is supported.
Can I control the bass and treble?
Yes. Bass and treble can be adjusted via the settings menu in the Bose Music app.
Can I connect the Bose Home Speaker 300 to a bass module or satellite surround speakers?
No. The Bose Bass Module 500, Bose Bass Module 700 and Bose Surround Speakers can only be added to the Bose Soundbar 500 and Bose Soundbar 700.
Can the Bose Home Speaker 300 work in multi-room groups?
Yes. The Bose Home Speaker 300 can play in synchronised multi-room groups with additional Bose Home Speaker 300 units, or with the Bose Home Speaker 500, the Bose Soundbar 500 or the Bose Soundbar 700. However, you cannot play synchronised multi-room content across the Bose Home Speaker 300 and either Bose SoundTouch products or products from other manufacturers (including Google or Amazon).
Is the Bose Home Speaker 300 compatible with Bose SoundTouch speakers?
No. The Bose Home Speaker 300 uses the Bose Music app for setup, control and music browsing, while Bose SoundTouch products use the Bose SoundTouch app. The Bose Home Speaker 300 works in synchronised multi-room groups with any combination of additional Bose Home Speaker 300 units, the Bose Home Speaker 500, the Bose Soundbar 500 or the Bose Soundbar 700.
However, the Bose Home Speaker 300, Bose Home Speaker 500, Bose Soundbar 500 and Bose Soundbar 700 can interoperate with Bose SoundTouch products to some extent through Alexa. There are no plans to update Bose SoundTouch products to be compatible through the Google Assistant in a similar fashion.
With Alexa, users can speak to the Bose Home Speaker 300, Bose Home Speaker 500, Bose Soundbar 500 or Bose Soundbar 700 to initiate or control music on any Bose SoundTouch speaker in their home. This requires that the user has enabled the Bose smart home skill for SoundTouch in the Alexa app. For example, a user can ask Alexa on their Bose Soundbar 500 to “Play The Beatles on my living room SoundTouch 20” or “Turn off the kitchen SoundTouch 10”. This feature still does not allow the Bose Home Speaker 500, Bose Soundbar 500 and Bose Soundbar 700 to be grouped with Bose SoundTouch products for synchronised multi-room playback.
How does the Bose Home Speaker 300 compare to Bose SoundTouch speakers?
The Bose Home Speaker 300 along with the Bose Home Speaker 500, the Bose Soundbar 500 and the Bose Soundbar 700 (and future products) are the new smart speakers from Bose that include new acoustics with the Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa built-in, and are compatible with the Bose Music app for setup and control of integrated Wi-Fi music services.
Bose SoundTouch speakers are a broader family of Wi-Fi speakers that provide Bose quality sound with easy access to your music. Bose SoundTouch products use the Bose SoundTouch app for setup and control of integrated Wi-Fi music services. Bose SoundTouch speakers do not have the Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa built-in, although they may be controlled by voice using separate devices like the Amazon Echo and Echo Dot.
In terms of acoustic performance, the Bose Home Speaker 300 produces deeper bass and a 360° lifelike sound when compared to the similarly sized Bose SoundTouch 10.
