They focus on delivering high-quality audio with features like Bose Immersive Audio, which creates a wider, more natural soundstage that feels like it’s in front of you rather than inside your head. Yes. The combination of skin-safe materials, an open design, long battery life of up to 9 hours with standard listening,¹ and exceptional comfort makes them ideal for extended wear.
Bose OpenAudio Technology directs sound toward your ear while minimizing sound leakage. In most environments and at typical listening levels, people nearby won’t hear your audio. At maximum volume in a very quiet setting, others may notice sound, but they won’t hear clear details unless they are very close.
Supported devices include any Bluetooth®-enabled phone, tablet, or computer. Pairing steps:
- Place both earbuds in the charging case, and open the lid.
- Press and hold the case Bluetooth button until the LED blinks blue.
- On your device, go to Settings > Bluetooth, and select “Bose Ultra Open 2 Earbuds”.
- Confirm pairing, then start audio playback.
When the earbuds are fully charged, they can play audio for up to 9 hours (up to 5 hours with either Immersive Audio or Auto Volume set to “On”, or up to 4 hours with both set to “On”).
When the case is fully charged, it can provide up to an additional 19.5 hours of audio playback (up to an additional 11 hours with either Immersive Audio or Auto Volume set to “On”, or up to 8.5 hours with both set to “On”).
When fully charged, the earbuds can stay connected to a device while not playing audio for up to 20 hours.
Yes. You can use either the left or right bud independently for music or phone calls. Controls on your bud will remain the same as when you are using both buds, as will any shortcuts previously set. When one bud is placed into the case, the other bud will play mono audio. For optimal audio performance, both buds should be used together.
Yes. Use the Bose app to set one or both earbud shortcut functions to access your phone’s native voice assistant, and then press and hold the earbud button. Your voice assistant will listen for a command from the microphone on your earbuds.
You can either charge with a USB-C charging cable or wirelessly. For wireless charging, align the lower half of the back of the charging case with the centre of your wireless charger. For a quick charge, if the earbud battery level is low, a 10-minute charge with the case closed powers the earbuds for up to 2 hours.²
You can control volume on your device or directly on the earbuds. Each earbud has a button on the top of the barrel. It allows you to control audio (play, pause, next, previous, volume, and shortcut) and calls (accept, decline, and end). Press, then press and hold the button to trigger volume control. This function is a short press followed by a long press. When performed on the left earbud, the volume will slowly decrease as you hold the second press. When performed on the right earbud, the volume will slowly increase as you hold the second press. Release when you have reached the desired volume.
Yes. The earbuds are designed to sit on a part of the ear that typically doesn’t interfere with glasses, hats, or most piercings. In some cases, the magnets may lightly interact with jewellery containing ferromagnetic metals (like nickel). If needed, adjust the earbud position slightly for comfort.
No. Bone conduction requires a tight fit between the bone-conduction device and your head and has significant limitations to both sound quality and comfort. Bose Ultra Open Earbuds (2nd Gen) use proprietary Bose OpenAudio Technology to deliver rich full-range sound, while minimizing sound that others can hear, and they do not require a tight fit.

Stay situationally aware with great sound quality
These headphones are a must for anyone looking for great sound, all day comfort, and the ability to hear your surroundings while still enjoying music, audiobooks and podcasts. They are very comfortable. The battery life blew me away with how long it lasted.

Why I Still Choose The Ultra Open Earbuds!
I’m in love with the Bose Ultra Open Earbuds 2, they’re even better than the first ones. I can make calls effortlessly now, making calls before could be a bit of problem hearing people clearly. They definitely fixed that issue! The battery lasts a lot longer, I hadn’t charged them over a week and I was still able to use them at work. Overall, the Ultra Open Earbuds are still my favorite out of every other earbuds I’ve tried, for sound quality, for how they feel on my ears, the connectivity etc.

The perfect earbuds for small ears
These earbuds are the first pair I have owned that finally work for me! have really small ears and have tried numerous brands and I have the same issue with all of them- they won't stay in my ears and constantly fall out. The Bose Ultra Open Earbuds don't fit in your ear but rather clip on to the outside of your ear. They are snug and extremely comfortable. I can do any activity and they don't fall off or slip around, and I don't find my ears hurting after a while. They have excellent sound- they live up to what you would expect from Bose. The only downside is that they don't have noise cancellation, but they aren't designed to fit in your ear canal. I love how I can wear these but still hear what's going on around me. They have great sound quality for calls, music or for watching movies on the plane. And bonus, the case stands upright- I find this a great feature when I have it sitting on the tray table in the plane as it doesn't slide around. Highly recommend!!!

Great for work, great for home!
I really have enjoyed having the 2nd Gen Bose Ultra Open Earbuds! Just a little about myself, I’m in my 50s and I work part time for a large health network. I also have an active home life and enjoy walking outdoors. First, I must praise these earbuds for being completely wearable in my work environment! I am on my feet and have coworkers near me (I am not clinical but clerical) so I have to be able to hear them when there is something going on or we’re working together on something. The Ultra Open 2s allow me to have a little something on at a lower level, my ‘peaceful work music’ even while I engage with my coworkers. I don’t have to turn the music down, because it’s just loud enough to be soothing background music. It’s the perfect blend of being aware as well as having a nice chill vibe playing. As well, I do enjoy listening to louder music, and the Ultra Open 2s also came through huge for me! Rocking out, doing housework or taking a walk on the treadmill. They are perfect! I asked several people if they could hear the music when it was loud (I had them get close to my ears) and the answer was no! Obviously, at a very high volume they could tell that I had something playing, but could not identify what it was, not even if it was rock, or metal, or pop, nothing! That’s really impressive and I was really happy to know that if I do wear the Ultra Open 2s in public with music rocking that it would stay with me and not bother anyone else. As far as the features, these are fully customizable with the Bose App, and there are several modes you can use (my favorite is immersive). Everything you need to do can be controlled by the earbuds themselves, but the App gives you more to make them truly yours that fit into your lifestyle. The sound quality is excellent- I was really pleasantly surprised at how good it is! It exceeded my expectations. In the App you can customize the bass and treble with the equalizer and that’s a game changer depending on what you are listening to (book vs. music, etc.). The Ultra Open 2s are very comfortable and I have worn them for 2-3 hours with no discomfort. They never fall out/off! The battery stood up for these longer playing sessions as well. The case for the Ultra Open 2s is sleek and small. I carry mine in my purse and the earbuds stayed tucked in and the lid did not once open by accident. Finally, walking outside is a favorite activity for myself and my family. I can be engaged in conversation with them, and remain completely aware of my surroundings while I walk. Overall, the Bose Ultra Open 2nd Gen are a perfect fit for me and I am enjoying them very much. The materials are high quality and feel solid (but not heavy at all), which I am not surprised with since the Bose brand is so highly regarded. I’ll be using my Ultra Open 2s for a long time, and continue to enjoy every minute of listening time with them!

My new everyday earbuds.
My new everyday earbuds. Having only used a competitor’s earbuds for the past decade, I was always trying to find a better way for them to stay in my ear - aftermarket ear loops or changing out the ear tips - but putting on the Ultra Open Earbuds changed my loyalty. The new Ultra Open Earbuds are light, fit my ear, and deliver excellent sound - no adjustments or extra modifications needed. At the office, they still let in enough ambient sound that I can stay engaged with colleagues when they ask for help, while enjoying music to stay focused. While exercising, the earbuds stay in your ear no matter what you are doing, which is always an issue with other earbuds.
I strongly believe that if you buy the Ultra Open Earbuds, they'll become your everyday earbuds. Highly recommended.
